Depict Video Analysis

Depict Video Analysis :

 Looking For Marilyn (2008)
https://www.depict.org/2008/looking-for-marilyn/?category_request=2008

The short looking for Marilyn shows the way girls and women are affected but famous women. For example with Marilyn Monroe people are ‘looking’ to be exactly like her beautiful, a blond bombshell, this relates to how popular famous women affect people now they want to be just like them.
The way that the crater decided to film in black and white helps to create an old fashioned vintage feel to the short it also relates to the idea of the film and the use of Marilyn Monroe linking the coloring to the way Marilyn was seen in a lot of movies during the start of her carrier. i also like the way that the use of hand held camera shots and point of view shots in the scene where "Marilyn" is being surrounded by paparazzi and fans it creates a more in the moment shot/feel to it, meaning it makes the viewer feel as though they are there in the moment and time.

The Door In The Wall (2012)
https://www.depict.org/2012/the-door-in-the-wall/?category_request=2012

The writer David Lilley seemed to want to combines a loved children's movie, the secret garden with the hidden door in the wall and the mysterious key, and relating to a child’s imprecation able and nieves mind and the problems it can cause but also a very important warning to children about talking to strangers and trusting those you do not know.

I like the way the director has created a sought of magical and innocent beginning of the film and emphasizes the using the lighting, a sunny setting with an adventure in a beautiful woods, it also uses an innocent child to help create a more calm feel to it but it then uses the use of lighting and scenery to change or take that innocents and calm feeling away through the opening of the door into a darker more scary woods.

The use of camera shots and angles, point of view shots and high angel shots, give the viewer not just a look at whats inside the mind of the person and what they see but also what the person is doing and where they are it also helps to make people understand what is going on in the film for example the travel shot going upwards to look over the wall creates an understanding of where people are and what the movie might be about.

Torn (2015)
https://www.depict.org/2015/torn/?category_request=2015

Torn creates an incite into the emotions, thoughts and mind of a child who sees and witnesses their parents fighting and getting a divorce thought the use of media. The use of animation helps to enphosise the fact its from a child point of view because it dose look a little more cartoonist, however the use of color and scenes creates a more grown up feel in some places because its as if the child has to experience and be more grown up than he actually is because of the parents. the film also highlights how a child feels when parents fight and divorce, they sometimes feel as if its there fault this is shown in the way that the child looks almost guilty at the end and the way that he or she reacts to the fighting of there parents.

The title its self fits well with the film, Torn, because
by the end of it the family is torn in half and the child is torn between mother and father.
another key point that i pick up after watching this several times was the fact that as the film goes on the child's teddy bear is lost, i think this shows that because of the fighting and divorce/ separation  the child wishes to give up childish things to try and help repair the relationship by being more grown up.
